Today I ate lunch in the breakroom. I normally go to my car to drink my blood because I’m still not that comfortable doing that in front of others, but I have been trying to get out of my comfort zone lately so I decided to go to the breakroom. When I walked in I saw Carla sitting by herself at one of the tables. I was going to sit somewhere else when I decided to ask if I could sit with her. She looked really happy and her moved her stuff out of the chair next to her. We got to talking a little bit about ourselves and she told me that she’s still getting used to the changes too. She was used to being a vampire since she was bit in the 50s, but the world around her changed so fast. She didn’t even get a chance to enjoy a lot of it since she had to go into hiding for most of it. She’s glad that society is more accepting of paranormal citizens now that she doesn’t have to hide anymore.
You know, I used to be annoyed with the way she would ask questions, but I didn’t think about how things would be new to someone like her. The changes would catch me by surprise when I was human. I mean look at how we went from VHS to DVD to Blu-ray to now streaming. I couldn’t imagine how it would be trying to catch up while trying to hide your identity.
It turns out you can still continue to learn even if you’re undead. I think I’m going to have lunch with her more often.
